Access Restrictions

As a result of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement, there is a considerable amount of privately owned land in Nunavut. And while boundaries are not physically marked on land, access restrictions do apply in the Land Claims Settlement Zone.

If you have booked a tour with a local licensed operator, it is the operator's responsibility to know the access restrictions and obtain the correct permits. Hunters and fishers are required to be accompanied by an Inuit guide. If you are canoeing or wilderness camping – the responsibility for determining access restrictions is yours. Contact Nunavut Tourism for information on access restrictions in the area in which you may be travelling.
