The Inuit have long been associated with soapstone carvings; however, Inuit artisans are adept at many other forms of art that include print-making, woven wall hangings, crafting jewelry, and making replicas of traditional tools used in the day to day life of the Inuit. When in Nunavut you can actually view artists in action – watch carvers working outside their homes releasing the spirit of the bear or seal from within the stone or artisans fashioning tools or jewelry from caribou antler, ivory, metal, and baleen. |
