The Inuit of Nunavut have long been associated with soapstone carvings,
although the people are adept at many other forms of art; print making and
woven wall hangings, caribou antler jewellery, replicas of tools out of
skin or stone from a more traditional time.
The skills of the past have been transformed into the business of the
future, with large facilities for the development of new skills and use
of new mediums - oil paintings, fur dolls, fashion clothing with northern
flair and silver jewellery.
Summer courses in Quivviuq weaving, photography and water colour painting
are offered in beautiful outdoor classrooms with world renowned instructors.
