The Inuit have lived in the Nunavut area for thousands of years and watched and assisted the explorers seeking the Northwest Passage to the Far East.

The Inuit are a friendly people who are trying to adapt to the changes that have affected their lifestyle and land in a few short decades. In half a century their traditional nomadic life of living off the land and travelling with the animals has given way to a community centred lifestyle complete with office jobs.

The new Nunavut government is now being developed by these adaptive people, a government that will include not only Inuit responsibilities but non-Inuit as well. The Nunavut government must deal at the national and international levels as well as deal with local and regional issues.
