Pronounced "ee-ka-loo-eet", the capital of Nunavut is growing quickly (the figure above is a very rough estimate). Among local sites is the remarkable Anglican cathedral, St. Jude's, shaped like an igloo and decorated with crafts produced by members of the congregation. The Government of Nunavut Building is home not only to Nunavut's legislative assembly, but an excellent display of northern art as well. Caribou often wander through town along the road to Apex, a tiny community and site of the old Hudson's Bay post. Sylvia Grinnel Territorial Park is an attractive picnic and hiking area.
Several outfitters operate snowmobile and dog team trips to Kitannikk Territorial Park Reserve, Qaummaarviiut Territorial Historic Park, the floe edge and on Frobisher Bay. In the summer, boat trips on the bay and rafting and hiking trips into Katannilik Park are available. |

Nunatta Sunakkutaangit Museum houses a fine collection of Inuit sculpture and prints, together with historic artifacts. Travelling exhibits from other museums can be seen from time to time.
